What Is A Dog Show?
Dog Shows are held under Canadian Kennel Club rules. Dogs compete against the written standard of their breed to obtain points towards their Canadian Conformation Championship. As well, Champion dogs can compete towards Top Ten All Breed Standings in Canada and the Top Male and Female in their Breed in Canada.
Behind the Scenes À Who are the Players?
Judges: Our judges are breeders with many years of experience, who eventually applied for, studied and qualified to be hired by Clubs to judge official Canadian Kennel Club events. They do their best each day to select the dogs that most represent the standard of their breed. Exhibitors: The people you see in the ring usually fit into one of these categories: professional handlers, breeders and/or owners. They come from local communities, other Canadian provinces and the United States. Ring Stewards: Members of the dog community who work hand-in-hand with the judges to ensure that the show remains on schedule and that dogs maintain proper order in the ring. Show Committee: Club members volunteer, in the months preceding the show, to organize and deal with the paperwork necessary to hold such an event. The Show Superintendent is in charge of the show and ensures that all rules are being followed. The Show Secretary deals with all the paperwork, dog and handler registrations and submits all results to the Canadian Kennel Club. |
